Job Description
DutiesFull-Time, 37.50 hours per week.
Under general direction, be responsible for records management within the region ensuring records are compiled and maintained. Provide limited Human Resources, Finance and Systems support to the hostels within the region in accordance with relevant legislation and AHL policies and procedures. This position requires responsibility for data collection for Workplace Health and Safety with regard to legislative reporting requirements as well as Quality Assurance information collection within the region to ensure compliance with AHL policies and procedures and asset/property management within the region with regard to AHL Asset Management within the region. Relief of reception duties are also a component of this role as well as other duties as directed.

DutiesWithin the framework of their performance development agreement and with considerable autonomy and independence, the Head of Security and Community Safety will be expected to exercise the skills set out in the core and position specific selection criteria below to:

DutiesThe Australian Gemini Office (AusGO) within the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) wishes to appoint two AusGO Research Fellows, to be based at the AAO's new headquarters in North Ryde, Sydney. The successful applicants will direct their own high profile research programs, as well as carry out research in collaboration with other AAO research staff. The AusGO Research Fellows will spend 50% of their time on AusGO activities and 50% on their research.
The AusGO Research Fellows help to support the day-to-day activities of the AusGO, including assisting Australian astronomers in preparing Phase I and Phase II telescope time proposals, and providing expert technical support for a variety of Gemini instruments. Reporting to the Australian Gemini Scientist (AGS), the AusGO Research Fellows will assist the AGS with the Australian Time Allocation Committee, reporting to stakeholders on Gemini funding and outcomes, and supporting the other activities of the AusGO including public information and outreach. In addition the AusGO Research Fellows will help support Australian access to other 8m-class telescopes including the twin Magellan 6.5m telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile.

Job Description
DutiesTo undertake active research investigating the role of gravity waves in atmospheric momentum transport and their optimal representation in climate models. The research will make an important contribution to the work of the Climate Processes and Change Program of the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) and that program’s contribution to the Australian Antarctic Science Strategic Plan. The position will implement a gravity-wave ray-tracing capability. This will make it possible to link various observations to gravity-wave source regions and mechanisms, to infer the relative contributions of sub-classes of gravity waves to the momentum budget of the middle atmosphere and to provide a physical basis for gravity-wave parameter sets used to in numerical models. In so doing, the position will provide analytical and quantitative support to the team of Australian and international researchers who are working to improve the representation of the southern polar stratosphere in climate models and the subsequent climate predictions for southern mid-latitudes. The position demands a productive and innovative researcher capable of initiating and driving independent research ideas as well as collaboratively supporting the work of others.

A PhD in a relevant discipline from an Australian University or qualification of equivalent standard from an Australian or overseas university, or other qualifications appropriate to the duties of the position.

DutiesThe Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) seeks a qualified Mechanical Engineer for the mechanical engineering section. This section is responsible for the opto-mechanical design and engineering of instrumentation projects for application in the field of astronomy. The mechanical engineer will hold responsibility for various instrumentation projects initiated at AAO. Job responsibilities will include the the design, procurement, build, and test of instrumentation assemblies while maintaining schedule and budget. The mechanical engineer will report the mechanical engineering manager.
As one of the world’s leading astronomical organizations, the AAO has an international reputation for the successful development of astronomical instruments both for its own telescopes and for other international observatories. It operates major optical telescopes on Siding Spring Mountain near Coonabarabran in north-western NSW and has organizational headquarters and instrumentation facilities at Eastwood. The operations will be moved to North Ryde, NSW in early 2013. Employment will be based at Epping for a few months and after the relocation, at North Ryde; some travel to Coonabarabran and overseas may be involved.
